We give the Hitachi DS18DMR 18v cordless drill an 7.6 overall rating. This is Hitachi’s NiCd version of an 18v tool. It is getting harder to find as the focus moves to Li-Ion batteries. The biggest positive for the DS18DMR is the performance. It puts out 550 in-lbs of torque and a max speed of 1600 RPM, both of which are above average for the 18v class. The biggest downside is its weight. At 5.5 lbs this thing can be a chore to use for long periods of time.
We recommend looking at the Hitachi DS18DL Li-Ion 18v cordless drill instead.
